Today are Art one students were interviewed as the artists they have been learning about. Each student was tasked with picking an artist from a bowl and learning about their movements. They then created a piece in their artist's style. the artists ranged from Jackson pollock to Joan miro. Now that they have finished this, they are moving onto charcoal. Our art one students are tasked with the most media of our art classes. They test out every form such as painting, charcoal, drawing, and sculpture. It's amazing the skill kids display in all media.

Today our Art 2 and above students are lucky enough to be able to visit the Scholastics art show at Macomb Community College. Viewing our own work is exciting but the students also have the opportunity to be inspired by the many other talented artists in the area. It seems as if every year the art gets more visually interesting and impressive. This is just one more opportunity for us to be extremely proud of our hard working students for all of their determination and success.

Our art classes are now in relax mode. Exams are coming up so our students are beginning to work on their pieces. For Art 2 and 3, the students have chosen a word and were given the task of illustrating it in an interesting manner on the dictionary page of that chosen word. Art 1 is finishing up their painting projects and preparing for their exam on art terms that they have learned throughout the year. Our Scholastics results are being released tomorrow, and it is fair to say that many of the artists are nervous. We are hoping for the best but will be proud and grateful for any award given. Updates on the awards given will be announced in the post next week.

We're still in that huge scholastics push! All of the students work must be completed by the end of Christmas break to be turned in. The submission count is higher than Mooney has ever seen. Last week we were at over 100 entries when our normal final count is around 75. Hopefully we will see more of our student's work in the show this year and maybe even in the national awards show in New York City.

This week our Art 3 students are finishing up their identity projects. These projects are all so diverse and interesting. Some are drawings of their faces or some are almost like social experiments. Above all they dive into the idea of identity. We are in a huge push for our first Art competition of the year, Scholastics Art and Writing. Our AP students are working hard to complete eight pieces for portfolios as well as our Art 2 students are in finishing their charcoal drawings. We are determined to make this a great year for Scholastics!
